Introduction
As part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant to the Wisconsin Birth Defects Prevention and Surveillance Program, this project's objective was to develop and provide folic acid education to Wisconsin family planning clinic staff. Amy Lemke, Ph.D., served as a consultant to Health Care Education and Training Inc. to carry out project activities, which included:
- Conducting an assessment of Wisconsin family planning clinic needs for folic acid education
- Ceveloping educational materials for training the family planning clinic staff
- Facilitating folic acid education presentations throughout the state
- Broadcasting the presentation via a statewide educational teleconference network
- Producing a 24-minute videotape that was distributed to additional clinic sites
Objectives
In this learning module, you will learn about:
- Describe the different types of NTDs
- Identify the role of folic acid in the prevention of NTDs
- Discuss the barriers to use of folic acid; and
- Discuss educational strategies health care providers can use to deliver the folic acid message.
